Hands with freshly manicured nails.

If there’s ever a time to escape for some self-care, it’s now. During times of stress, focusing on your own needs and finding time for yourself can help lower your blood pressure, relieve anxiety, boost immunity, and may even improve your sleep.

While you can’t head out for a tranquil day at the spa in most places quite yet, there are some simple ways to create your own rejuvenating experience in the comfort of your home. Try these five tips from the LifeSpa to nourish your mind and body while providing some much-needed relaxation.

No. 1: Set the mood.

Infuse a pitcher of ice water with sliced cucumbers and lemon to sip on during your spa experience. Not only does it provide some good hydration, but it ties your senses fully into the experience. Next, light some candles and dim the lights to help elevate the ambiance of your space.

At-home tip: Your cucumber slices can double as an eye mask once you finish your glass of water.

No. 2: Enjoy a relaxing bath.

Fill your bathtub with hot water and add Epsom salts, your favorite essential oils, or a natural bath bomb, if you have them on hand. While the tub is filling, select some soft music, a podcast, or the soothing brain-body benefits of a meditation that you can enjoy while you soak.

At-home tip: Make a body scrub using the morning’s leftover coffee grounds, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, and 1/4 cup of melted coconut oil.

No. 3: Treat your hair.

After shampooing or using a clarifying rinse, squeeze out excess water with a dry wash cloth and then apply a deep-conditioning treatment. (You can even make your own using pantry items listed below). Clip back your hair or wrap a towel around it and let the treatment absorb into your hair for 15 to 20 minutes. When you’re ready, massage your scalp, rinse your hair, and enjoy the soft, shiny results.

At-home tip: For a homemade clarifying rinse, mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with one cup of water, or use a pint of flat light beer. Mix your own moisturizing hair mask by combining the flesh of one avocado with a tablespoon of honey.

No. 4: Give yourself a facial.

Cleanse and exfoliate your skin using your favorite products, then take an extra few minutes to open your pores by placing a warm washcloth over your face and breathing deeply. Apply toner, then finish by lightly rubbing a hydrating mask or facial oil all over your skin, including your neck and chest. Massage your face gently using your fingertips or a jade roller to promote circulation.

If you’ve been experiencing seasonal allergies or other congestion, try a lymphatic massage, which uses light, targeted pressure from your fingertips to support your system and help relieve sinus pressure.

At-home tip: Make your own face mask using 2 tablespoons of plain, Greek yogurt mixed with one tablespoon of finely ground oatmeal, and 1/2 tablespoon of raw honey.

No. 5: Touch up your manicure and pedicure.

Boost your mood by brightening up your nails with a new, seasonal color. Start by removing any old polish. Apply cuticle oil and file your nails into the desired shape, then apply your new base color. After your first coat has dried, apply a second coat. Finish by adding a topcoat for shine and to protect the color from chipping. When your nails have fully dried, massage your hands and feet with moisturizer or coconut oil.

At-home tip: Spring colors we love include baby blue, pistachio, and light neutrals.

We hope you enjoy your at-home spa day!
