Maybe you’ve noticed the Life Time 60day banners in your club or the email in your inbox, but you haven’t yet stopped to dig in on this program. So what is it? And why do nearly 20,000 Life Time members join the 60day several times a year?
To answer your questions, we asked Ro Quintero, NASM-certified personal trainer and nutrition coach based in Cypress, Texas — and trainer of two 60day grand prize winners — to tell us all about this popular program. Read on for an up-close look at this classic Life Time offering.
Life Time | What is the 60day?
Ro Quintero | The 60day is a two-month-long nutrition and fitness program designed to help you focus on and achieve your healthy-living goals. It delivers daily support, resources, and motivation to help you jump-start your efforts and live healthier. It’s also a great way to get inspired and get more involved at Life Time.
Although there is an option to compete for prizes, the 60day program is not a competition at its core. It’s designed with all of our members in mind — so whether you’re looking to eat better, lose weight, gain muscle, or simply be more active, this program is for you.
LT | Why should I sign up?
RQ | One of my favorite sayings is, “What doesn’t challenge you doesn’t change you.” If you’re looking for a change, the 60day is a great opportunity to challenge yourself — to reach your goals, learn to live better, get solid nutrition and fitness information, and be part of a supportive community.
If you’re new to working out and feeling a little intimidated, no worries! The 60day includes a workout plan and weekly trainer-led workouts, so you’ll know exactly what to do. You will finish with way more knowledge than you did when you started.
There’s also something about having a deadline that pushes you to stay committed. Sixty days is a finite period of time you can plan for and a reasonable timeframe to set your sights on something achievable. You might surprise yourself with what you can accomplish.
LT | What’s included in the program?
RQ | Your 60day registration includes:
- A goal-setting session with a personal trainer who will help create a structured, personalized plan for you
- An in-club kickoff workout and social event the first weekend of the 60day
- An eight-week meal plan with recipes and weekly grocery lists, including vegetarian options
- An online eight-week exercise program with daily workouts and coaching videos
- A mid-point check-in, plus weekly progress check-ins with our personal-training team for accountability and guidance, if needed
- Fun, trainer-led workouts that you can join every Saturday morning at your club
- Discounts on training and nutrition products and services during Kickoff Week
LT | Do I need to have a trainer to participate?
RQ | You do not need to work with a personal trainer to join the program, though it can be helpful, especially if you’re looking for accountability. Much like taking a guide-led excursion on vacation, you will get more out of the process if you team up with a professional trainer. Regardless, the 60day can give you the support you need and provide access to valuable information and a supportive community.
LT | Can I do the 60day more than once?
RQ | Absolutely! Keep in mind that even though exercise and careful nutrition is good stress on the body, it’s still stress. So take the month after your 60day ends to recharge and find your balance. And next time, change things up a bit. For instance, if weight loss was your goal on your first 60day, focus more on a performance or strength goal — such as completing a 5K or half marathon, or doing more push-ups, pull-ups or heavier squats — on your next 60day.
And remember, for optimal results, your body needs cycles of work and recovery. Exercise breaks down your body, so it’s crucial to build it back up with recovery. Recovery helps heal the body — so be proactive, not reactive.
LT | Is the 60day open to nonmembers?
RQ | Currently, the 60day is exclusively for Life Time members.
LT | Is there a 60day competition? How does that work?
RQ | The 60day includes a completely optional competition, focusing on both weight loss and body transformation, with finalists and grand prize winners. If this fits your goals, you can enter to win by submitting your “before” and “after” photos and your written success story at the end of the program. A team of judges selects 10 male and 10 female finalists, who are then voted on by Life Time members. The four finalists with the highest total scores win the grand prize package, including a year of Life Time membership dues, an ActiveMetabolic AssessmentSM, personal training sessions, and a nutritional supplement package.
LT | How can I set myself up for success?
RQ | Be honest with yourself about where you are right now, where you want to be, and what tools you need to get there — and then take advantage of all the resources included in the 60day! Work with a trainer during your Kickoff Week appointment to make sure you have the help you need. They’ll be able to give their expert advice on the best place for you to start based on your goals, budget, and available time.
Outside of following your plan, stay well rested with adequate sleep and keep a positive mindset. Being well-rested keeps your mind strong, while a positive attitude keeps you motivated to make the right changes and move forward with positive results. The No. 1 question I ask all of my 60day participants is, “how do you feel?” I want my people to feel strong, energized and happy. In the end, everyone who sticks it out feels like a winner. It’s amazing how much you can change in 60 days. That alone makes it worth it.
